Frequently Asked Questions

Believe it or not, I do get email from people about this site. Here is my attempt to save some folks the trouble of writing.

What is all this?

It’s a rather amateurish website, built to display fortune cookie fortunes that don’t come across like their authors probably intended.

Why does this site exist?

Okay, so you didn’t buy the explanation on the front page. The truth is I never really expected anybody to be interested. I simply got bored one day and decided to set up a small website for the sole purpose of playing with HTML. I needed a subject. I found the stupidity fortune sitting underneath a book. One thing led to another. Now I have to keep updating the thing at least once in a while because people actually read it. This is what is known as “painting yourself into a corner”.

Lately I’ve been fooling around with automatic content management systems, which is sort of like upgrading from a brush to a paint sprayer. I can paint myself into a corner faster and easier. It is not for the faint of heart, though.

Are you really into fortune cookies or something?

I don’t like fortune cookies.

Why do you go so long without updating the website?

Because it doesn’t feed the hungry, house the homeless, or contribute to world peace.

Do any of your other activities do those things?

Oh be quiet.

Can I send you a fortune I found?

Yep. Please see Submissions for details.

How long will it be before you update the site again?

I’ve gone as long as three years without touching it, so no promises.

I got a fortune that was totally blank, nothing written on it at all. What does it mean?

You’re reading the back. Turn it over.

No, seriously, there’s nothing written on either side. What’s it mean?

There was probably just a problem at the printing compa It means that if you win the lottery you should give me half of the money.

Have you heard of the game where you add the words “in bed” to the end of a fortune?

Yes.

Do you know you can add the words “in bed” to the end when you read a fortune?

I heard that.

I think it’s fun to play a little game. After reading a fortune, I add the words “in bed”. Ever hear of anybody else doing that?

I believe I have heard of it, yes.

Know about the “in bed” trick?

Yep.

Do you play that “in bed” game where you add the words “in bed” to the end of a fortune when you read it?

Sigh.

My friend told me about this funny thing he does when he reads fortune cookies. He puts the phrase “in bed” at the end, so it sounds like the fortune is talking about something you’d do in bed.

How about that.

In bed in bed in bed in bed in bed in bed!
